What is a best friend?
To me, it’s someone with whom you share your deepest secrets. Someone who has your back no matter what. Like when you wore gauchos to a housewarming party and no one would make eye contact with you except for your BFF. Who, I might add, complimented your heinous fashion faux pas multiple times. Or the time you ate so many hot wings and drank soooo many Mike’s Hard Lemonades that you were able to belch half of the alphabet making everyone leave the table… except for your BFF. In fact, he ripped a belch in your defense that he cleared the entire restaurant.
My bestie is Albert. He’s eight feet tall, hairy and somewhat controversial. What he lacks in hygiene, he makes up for in jokes that appeal to second grade boys. I adore him.
Many don’t believe in him. I do.
Many hunt him. Not to worry, he’s an excellent hider.
My love (or obsession) of Bigfoot started with Harry and the Hendersons. I also loved Strange Wilderness. Full disclosure, my husband starred in it. More than anything I wanted a Bigfoot BFF of my own. It wasn’t to be… until now. LOL
My husband, another one of my besties, is very aware of my weird obsessions. He loves me for them or possibly in spite of them. He loves that my imagination compels me to write stories about witches, vampires, werwolves, demons and yes, Bigfoot. We have conversations where he has to ask me if I’m talking about real people or the people I make up. Occasionally, I have to think about my answer. LOL
Anyhoo, earlier this year Steve (the fabulous dude I married) made all my Bigfoot dreams come true! As I sat on the back porch writing at my table, around the corner the torso of Albert was rolled in on a dolly by the amazing artist who created him. His legs and arms followed soon thereafter and my BFF was drilled together and brought to life.
I SCREAMED WITH JOY and most likely terrified the artist who carved him. It was the best gift I’ve ever received. Second place goes to the freezer Steve got me that makes rabbit turd ice. (The kind you can get at Sonic) My man knows the way to my heart.
Now, I still write on the back porch, but instead of sitting at the table, I sit next to Albert and we work side by side. He’s my new muse. I love him and he loves me. My Bigfoot never breathes a word about any of the secrets I share with him and I keep his close to my chest as well.
It’s good to have BFFs. I have a small handful of people who are near and dear to me. Albert is on that list. The belief in the fantastical may not be reasonable or remotely logical. It might even be nuts, but I see it as a lovely bonus. The imagination is a wonderful gift. My happiness and my living comes from my warped brain and I’m all in.
So here’s to our BFFs, imaginary, wooden and otherwise. Life is so very good. Pictured below is Albert in his Fourth of July costume. He loves to get gussied up for the holidays.
xoxo Robyn

Albert loves you. He talks about you all the time!
Awww. He’s adorable. But he needs a winter environment, to be totally in his element. Ya know?
Ann, he has wonderful winter wear. He appreciates your concern.
If Albert ever needs a cold weather vacation, send him to Michigan.
Albert has knobby knees, but as your BFF, you never tell him.
Kelley, he’s a bit self conscious about them, but we’ve convinced him they’re sexy.

I love your BFF. I agree about a Highland Cow or a fainting Goat. We do have a woodchuck family visit several times a week along with a Doe and her fawns
