Getting Stoned – My Love Affair With Rocks and Crystals

Crystals and pretty rocks have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Whether it was finding a smooth a pretty one on a creek shore or buying a bag of them at a tourist shop outside a cave, I’ve always been drawn to them. Their energy, their texture, and their glimmering beauty have always drawn me in, even before I understood the meanings behind them. Over time, they’ve become much more than decorative treasures. They have become staples in my journey of mindfulness, creativity, and self-care.

One of my most beloved writing tools is a strand of strapped chakra stones. When I need to focus or clear my thoughts, I click them around in my hand, letting their grounding energy guide me to clarity. Beyond this simple tool, my home is peppered with specific stones that I adore, each carrying its own unique charm and resonance.

My Favorite Stones

These are the crystals I feel most connected to, grouped by their colors and their spiritual and metaphysical meanings:

Greens: Growth and Success

Associated with the heart chakra to regulate emotion and promote good relationships, luck, and prosperity.

My favorites of the Greens are:

  • Aventurine: Known as the “Stone of Opportunity,” aventurine is said to bring luck and encourage growth. Its lovely green hue makes it my go-to for cultivating abundance and a sense of calm. (I have these peppered all over my house!)
  • Unakite: With its mossy green and pink tones, unakite represents balance and harmony. I love its grounding energy—it feels like carrying a piece of the forest with me.
  • Jade: A timeless symbol of prosperity and protection, jade radiates wisdom and serenity. Its cool touch is a reminder to stay patient and centered.
  • Kambaba Jasper: A beautiful and unique stone, sometimes called crocodile jasper because of its pattern, promotes calm, sleep, and helps you connect to nature.

Blues: Intuition and Truth

Associated with the throat chakra to promote creativity, tranquility (and who couldn’t use some calm), wisdom, and protection.

My favorite blues stones are:

  • Lapis Lazuli: This deep blue stone with golden flecks is my favorite for tapping into creativity and wisdom. It feels like a bridge to the infinite.
  • Amazonite: With its calming turquoise tones, amazonite is the “Stone of Courage.” It helps me stay and live in my truth.

Earthy Browns and Golds: Strength and Stability

Associated with the sacral chakra to dispel negative thoughts, emotions, and beliefs.

  • Tiger’s Eye: A shimmering mix of browns and golds, tiger’s eye is a stone of confidence and protection. I often keep it close when I need to make big decisions and I’m having a lot of self-doubt.

Yellows and Citrines: Joy and Manifestation

Associate with the solar plexus chakra to help you stay empowered, realize self-worth, and embrace positivity.

  • Yellow Citrine: Known as the “Merchant’s Stone,” citrine is all about abundance and positivity. Its golden light is like carrying a pocketful of sunshine.
  • Yellow Aventurine: Great for the manifestation of your goals, enhancing your self-esteem, and strengthening your willpower.
  • Peridot: With its bright yellow-green glow, peridot is a stone of renewal and new beginnings. It brings a sense of lightness and joy, perfect for fresh starts.

Dark and Grounding Stones: Protection and Cleansing

Associated with the root chakra that helps you release fear, jealousy, anger, and greed while promoting physical and emotional healing.

  • Obsidian: A powerful stone for protection, obsidian absorbs negativity and keeps energy clear. Its sleek black surface feels like a shield of calm.

Keeping the Energy Clear

There are many ways to clean the energy on your stones and crystals. To ensure my stones stay vibrant and energized, I charge them regularly on a selenite plate. Selenite is a crystal of clarity and purification, and it works beautifully to cleanse and recharge my collection. I love setting my stones on the plate under moonlight or during a quiet moment, knowing that their energy is being refreshed and amplified.

Living with Crystals

Crystals are more than objects—they’re a way of bringing intentionality and beauty into my life. Whether they’re sitting on my desk, resting in a pocket, or decorating a cozy corner of my home, they remind me to stay grounded, inspired, and connected.

I am not an export in stones and crystals. I only know what I’ve researched myself, and these are my favorites. For those who share my love of crystals, I encourage you to explore what resonates with you. Whether it’s their colors, textures, or the energy they radiate, each stone holds its unique magic waiting to be discovered. Stones and crystals are amazing!
