There’s so much emphasis in February on Valentine’s Day, and getting caught up in spending lots of money on flowers, chocolate, cards–you name it. I don’t want to pooh-pooh on V-Day if it’s your thing, but I do think there’s a lot to be said for getting back to basics. So often in this life we get caught up in what society expects of us that we forget that there’s a person underneath the weight of all the should-dos in our daily lives.
Love magic has always played a role in folklore and traditions. From whispered spells to enchanted herbs, witches have always leaned on our magic to attract love. Free will is important and you shouldn’t mess with other people having the right to give consent, so most witches won’t mess with the traditional idea of love spells. Instead, we choose to focus more on self-empowerment and setting intentions as a fun and meaningful way to welcome love into your life.
Here’s a simple self-love spell I’ve created just for you.
- Light a pink candle and place a rose quartz nearby. A white candle and clear quartz are good stand-ins if you don’t have these. These don’t have to be expensive – regular birthday candles will do the trick!
- Write down affirmations of self-worth and love, such as ‘I am worthy of love’, ‘My heart is open to healthy relationships’, and ‘I love myself more with each new day’.
- Recite them, visualizing yourself glowing with love and confidence.
- Let the candle burn safely while you reflect on your worth. When the candle burns all the way out, imagine the flame of the candle continuing to burn in your heart. Your spell is now complete.
For those looking to enhance their romantic life, consider incorporating herbs like rosemary (for passion), lavender (for peace), and cinnamon (for attraction) into your rituals. Love spells aren’t just about attracting a partner—they’re about aligning with love in all its forms, including self-love, friendship, and gratitude.
Whether you’re single or taken, remember: the most powerful magic is knowing you’re already enough, no matter what!
